The festival
The International Film Festival of India (IFFI), founded in 1952, is one of Asia's oldest and most significant film festivals. It is jointly organized by the National Film Development Corporation, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, and the Entertainment Society of Goa.
Worth knowing
Since 2004 the festival has had its permanent home in Goa and became internationally competitive. It is now held each year during November and December.
How to attend
The public can register for delegate passes and buy tickets for screenings held at venues in and around Panaji, Goa. Registration and programme details are published on the official IFFI Goa website.
Awards & submissions
IFFI’s top prize is the Golden Peacock for Best Feature Film, awarded by an international jury and carrying a substantial cash prize shared between director and producer. The festival also confers the ICFT–UNESCO Gandhi Medal, presented with the Paris-based International Council for Film, Television and Audiovisual Communication to a film reflecting UNESCO’s ideals of tolerance, intercultural dialogue and peace, along with awards for direction and performances. Jointly organized by national and Goa state film bodies, IFFI has been based permanently in Goa since 2004, when it also became internationally competitive, and now runs each November in and around Panaji. Members of the public register for delegate passes and screening tickets. Filmmakers enter through the official call for entries — including via FilmFreeway — with registration and programme details published on the iffigoa.org website each year.
