Awards & submissions
MAMI’s principal competition is the South Asia Competition, whose international jury awards the Golden Gateway — a trophy and cash prize shared by the director and producer — to the best film from South Asia and its diaspora. The festival also runs Dimensions Mumbai, a long-running short-film contest inviting filmmakers aged 18 to 25 from across India to make a five-minute film themed on the city, a strand that has launched many careers. Organized by the Mumbai Academy of the Moving Image, MAMI brings contemporary world and Indian cinema — features, documentaries and shorts — to venues across the city, generally in the autumn, and has carried major title sponsors over the years.
