The festival

The International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR), founded in 1972, is one of Europe's leading festivals for independent and experimental cinema. Held each winter in Rotterdam, its Tiger Competition spotlights emerging directors from around the world.

Worth knowing

Through its Tiger Competition and the Hubert Bals Fund, IFFR has for decades supported and premiered new cinema from Asia, Africa, and Latin America, helping launch many first- and second-time Asian directors. It typically runs from late January into early February.

IFFR is a strongly public-facing festival, selling tickets and passes for screenings at de Doelen and cinemas across Rotterdam.
